Welcome to MTJR's Hall of Fame and Pop Wonderment!

To induct a 3 minute hero,
a band or artist has to be nominated for a song that you think is a great pop song.
A selected song can be from a band or artist who have had a string of hits, a one hit wonder,
an obscure album track or b-side or whatever you deem to be a bloomin' great pop song
worthy of being celebrated on an internet radio show's hall of fame of pop wonderment!

The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Nomination by JfK:

I'd have to nominate The Stranglers with Golden Brown. Apart from being a popular song (sampled by Jamelia no less) it's a song that doesn't lend itself to being covered or more to the point being a song that, IMHO, cannot be covered. It's just perfect as it is. What else could anyone do with it? I've no idea what the song is about but it meanders it's way quite happily along.

     Queen - Somebody to Love

Nomination by Simon Baker:

"A great song by the ultimate singles band"

The Beat - Save It For Later

Nomination by Lee Madge:

"One of two singles by The Beat I could have nominated. It was either this or "Best Friend", an equally fine pop song, but plumped for Save It For Later for it's infectious riff and chorus that I never tire of, and it's wonderfully ambiguous lyrics, that lead singer Dave Wakeling once admitted to not knowing what the song is about exactly, despite writing it"

Meatloaf - I'd do anything for love

Nomination by Sue Fisher:

"I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" is a song composed and written by Jim Steinman, and recorded by Meat Loaf. The song was released in 1993 as the first single from the album Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell.

Meatloaf has a way of taking a song and turning it into a short film - I love this live version and the long pause as the audience waits for his answer!

Hanson - Mmm Bop

 Nominated by Andy AKA Slippybee.

 "Silly, meaningless and joyful"

Althea & Donna  - Uptown Top Ranking

 Nominated by Lee Madge.

"A joyful record that never fails to make me smile."
